Registering an imported vehicle :

1. The registration fee is supplied to the DVLA, this is currently £25 (payable by cheque).
   
   
2. Proof of the vehicles manufacture date is suppiled by Volkswagen, this is to allow an age-related plate to be issued.
   
   
3. The vehicle is MOTed, using the chassis number instead of a registration number.
   
   
4. An insurance policy is taken out for the vehicle, again using the chassis number.
   
   
5. Up to two forms are then needed, application form V55/5 (from a Post Office or VRO), and Customs and Excise form 389 (this is needed only if the vehicle has been imported from outside the EEC).

An appropriate UK registration number is then issued.
